Tour description

Avariedfour-day tourin the Lechquellengebirge with an alpine character. The route connects Spullersee and Formarinsee with three historic Alpine Club huts and leads through alpine terrain with long ascents and descents. Good physical condition, sure-footedness, and alpine experience are required on all stages, especially on the Johannisweg.

Stage 1:
FromKlösterle, the ascent follows well-marked hiking trails towardSpullersee. The trail winds through forest and alpine terrain, steadily gaining elevation. After reaching the lake, follow the trail further tothe Ravensburger Hütte (1,948 m) located above, where you will spend the first night.

Stage 2:
On the second day, the route runs from the Ravensburger Hut towardZug. You’ll hike across alpine terrain with several ascents. The trail leads through open mountain landscapes and alpine basins and requires stamina as well as good navigation skills. After a varied day of hiking, you reach theGöppinger Hütte (2,245 m), which offers spectacular views in the central Lechquellengebirge.

Stage 3:
This stage is one of the more challenging sections of the tour. From the Göppinger Hütte, follow theJohannisweg, an alpine high-altitude trail with narrow passages and some steep sections. Sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential here. The trail eventually leads down toFormarinsee, on whose shore theFreiburger Hütte (1,918 m)is located.

Stage 4:
On the final day, you leave Formarinsee and head down into the valley. The descent follows well-marked mountain and forest trails through alpine landscapes and ravines towardDalaas. The trail is varied and offers frequent beautiful views down into the Klostertal valley. The three-day tour ends in Dalaas, from where bus connections are available to the surrounding towns.

Equipment

Sturdy footwear, warm clothing, rain and sun protection, a snack, a full water bottle, and hiking poles are recommended. Additionally, bring gear for an overnight stay in a mountain hut. A cell phone for emergencies.
